    Courses available for Nepali Students after high school in different streams: Science, Management and Humanities

    This article provides you the career guidelines highlighting all the courses available in Nepal after high school i.e. 10 + 2. Despite Nepal having very few universities, it offers a variety of courses in different streams of Science, Management and Humanities.  Here, we will discuss all the major courses available in different streams, their duration, fees and entrance examinations, scopes, and career prospects.

    Different Streams of study for Nepali students after high school pass

    1.    Science

    If you have studied science in your high school, you are open also to choose the course from the Management and Humanities section. You have a variety of open choices depending upon the subject you have taken: Biology or Non-Biology. Students can choose either Mathematics or Biology in the Science stream. Students choosing Mathematics can study B.Sc. in pure science subjects and engineering whereas students studying Biology can study B.Sc. in different subjects, MBBS, BDS, etc. We have listed different courses available for you in the science stream after 10+2.

    A.    Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

    There are many bachelor’s in Science courses available in Nepal after high school.

    • B.Sc. Agriculture:

    Bachelor of Science in Agriculture is a 4 years program related to Agriculture and Animal Science. Currently, Lamjung Campus, Gandaki Pakhilawa Campus, Gokuleshwor Agriculture, and Animal Science College, Prithu Technical College, and Midwest Academy and Research institute offer B.Sc. Agriculture under TU Board. The respective college fee structure varies. You can get a job as Agriculture Officer, Plantation Manager, and Research Scientist if you study B.Sc. Agriculture.

    • B.Sc. Botany:

    Bachelor of Science in Botany is a 4 years course. Many constituent and affiliated colleges of Tribhuvan University or Midwestern University across the nation (Nepal) offer B.Sc. Botany. The fee structure varies from colleges, so contact the concerned colleges. On completion of this course, you can be botanist, Greenhouse manager, and many others.

    • B.Sc. Chemistry:

    Bachelor of Science in chemistry is the 4-year annual degree program. Colleges like Amrit Campus, Goldengate International College, and Khwopa College offer it. You can get a job as an Analytical Chemist, Biochemist, and many others at the industrial level.

    • B.Sc. CSIT:

    Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology is a 4 years based course including over 8 semesters. The college conducts exams every semester. Some T.U. affiliated colleges offer this course. Due to limited colleges, the entrance exams are tougher. Students have opportunities to get a job in many fields related to computer science and modern information technology when they complete B.Sc. CSIT.

    • B.Sc. Environmental Science:

    Bachelor of Science in Environment is a 4 years annual exam based course. Many colleges like Amrit Campus, Khwopa College, and Tri-Chandra campus offer this course and so on. The fee structure ranges from NRs.6500 to NRs.7000 per annum. However, Fee structure changes every year. You can get a job in the Horticulture field and Environmental fields.

    • B.Sc. in Forestry:

    The Bachelor of Forestry Science is a 4-year professional degree of applied science that involves forest ecosystems management within increasingly complex social environments.TU affiliated forestry colleges like Kathmandu Forestry College offer the course. Applicants should give the two-hour-long entrance of 100 marks. Graduates after pursuing B.Sc. in Forestry can find work in both the public and private sectors, which requires forestry knowledge.

    • B.Sc. Geology:

    Bachelor of Science in Geology is a 4-year annual degree program. Colleges like Birendra Multiple Campus, Tri-Chandra, etc offer this course. Most of the colleges take entrance for admission. After graduation; you can pursue Masters in geology, geoinformatics, geophysics, remote sensing and gis, Master of Science and Technology in Geology etc.

    • B.Sc. Microbiology:

    Bachelor of Science in Microbiology is a 4-year program at Tribhuvan University run by the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST). Many TU affiliated colleges like Goldengate, Prithvi Narayan, and so on offer this course. The fee structure comes around NRs.24000 to NRs.30000 (May be higher in private colleges). On completion of B.Sc. Microbiology the respective student can work in hospitals, universities, medical schools, government laboratories, and almost every industry.

    • B.Sc. Mathematics:

    Bachelor of Science in Mathematics is a 4 years course of Tribhuvan University. Many constituent and affiliated colleges of Tribhuvan University offer this course across the nation (Nepal) like Damak Multiple Campus. Mathematics graduates can pursue their career in finance and investment analyst and adviser, and chartered or certified accountant.

    • B.Sc. Physics:

    Bachelor of Science in Physics is a 4-year annual degree program awarded by the Institute of Science and Technology and its constituent campuses like Khwopa, Amrit Campus, and so on. The fee structure varies from Government College to a private college. After completing your B.Sc. Course in Physics, there are many career opportunities open for you, such as physicists, a teacher, lab assistant, etc.

    • B.Sc. Tea Technology& Management:

    Bachelor of Science in Tea Technology and Management, also known as Mechi Multiple Campus offers B.Sc. in TTM only. There are only 24 seats with 13 open competitions (Entrance). You can get a job as a Tea Plantations Manager, Tea tasting, Tea marketing, etc.

    • B.Sc. Statistics:

    Bachelor of Science in Statistics is a 4 years course of Tribhuvan University. Many constituent and affiliated colleges of Tribhuvan University offer B.Sc. Statistics across the nation (Nepal). It leads to the statistician as a career.

    B.    Bachelor in Technology

    If you are interested in technology and want to pursue a career in technology, then you can have a look at these courses:

    • B.Tech. Food Technology:

    Bachelor of Technology in Food Technology is a 4 years annual degree program awarded by the Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University. Colleges like Padmashree International College, Lalitpur Valley College, offer this course, and so on. The course costs 4 to 8 lakhs. B.Tech. in Food Technology graduates include Mastering of Engineer in Food Technology, Master of Technology in Processing.

    • Bachelor of Information Technology:

    The Bachelor of Information Technology program includes studies of all fields of Information  Technology. It is a 4 years program. This offered by many colleges and in progress curriculum in TU affiliated colleges. It costs 4 to 18 lakhs. You can be a software engineer and search for the vacancy or you can increase your knowledge from various institutions.

    • Bachelor of Computer Application:

    BCA is a 4 years program focusing on computer software. This course offered by many colleges like Divya Gyan College and Birat Kshitiz College. It costs 4 to 10 lakhs. Having a degree of BCA, you have a chance of both private and government jobs as CIO or any computer specialist.

    C.    Medical

    There are many courses available in the medical field if you have studied Biology in high school. Some of the major medical courses include:

    • B.Sc. Nursing

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a 4 years program of Tribhuvan University conducted by IOM. Medical colleges like Chitwan Medical College, National Medical College, etc offer this course. Candidates should obtain a minimum of 50 marks in the entrance. You can get a job in hospitals or clinics as a nurse.

    • Bachelor in Nursing Science:

    Bachelor of Nursing Science program of Tribhuvan University prepares nurses for carrying out the role of care provider, manager, and educator. It is a 3 -year academic program having four major roads. It is offered by TU affiliated colleges and IOM. You can get a job as a nurse in various institutions.

    • Bachelor of Dental Surgery:

    This course lasts for about four and a half years in total, which is about nine full semesters. Colleges like Universal College of medical science affiliated by TU. Offer this course. You can pursue your career as a dentist.

    • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS):

    MBBS, which stands for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, is a 4 and half year academic program. It is compulsorily followed by one-year rotating internship training. TU affiliated many medical colleges like KIST Medical College; National Medical College and so on offer this course. It costs from Rs.25 lakhs to Rs.50 lakhs to study in Nepal. You can get a job as a doctor in hospitals, start your clinic, or join for a higher degree.

    • Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry:

    Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc.& A.H.) is a program run by the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (Iowans) under Tribhuvan University (TU). The B.V.Sc. & A.H. is a 5-year program having over 10 semesters. Colleges like Pakhilwa and Rampur offers these courses. You can get a job in Veterinary as a doctor for animals.

    • Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology:

    Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP) is a 4years program of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Tribhuvan University. The Maharajgunj Medical Campus is the only campus that provides this program on TU. Successful graduates of this course can find jobs across both private and government fields, in areas such as hearing aid and Cochlear Implant manufacturing there are main chances of getting a job.

    D.    Paramedical:

    Paramedical is a job-oriented course, which teaches an individual and changes them into health worker of the respective field. If you are interested, check out the courses included.

    • B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology:

    B.Sc. MIT. It is known, as Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology, is a four-year program of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Tribhuvan University. Maharajgunj and Chitwan Medical Colleges offer this course under Rs.6 lakhs to Rs.7 lakh. B. Sc. graduates in Medical Imaging Technology can successfully pursue their career as radiographers in government or private hospitals.

    • B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology or Radiographic Technology (4yrs):

    The Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology or Radiographic Technology gives students the knowledge and skills required to practice radiography profession to get the best career. It is completed less than 4 years. Colleges like TU Medical College offer this course. B. Sc. graduates in Medical Imaging Technology can successfully pursue their career as radiographers in government or private hospitals.

    • B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology:

    BMLT stands for Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Technology Program and it is a 4 years Bachelor course. Colleges like Chitwan Medical College offer this course under Rs.7 lakhs. You can get into these firms in various career prospects such as laboratory technician/laboratory manager/research associate and many others.

    • Bachelor in Optometry:

    The government started Bachelor in optometry (B. Optom.) course as a three years program and upgraded to four years in 2005 AD. This is offered by Maharajgunj Medical Campus. After completing this course, the students can work as postsecondary teachers, consultants in the eye care industry, or research in optometry colleges for the future of their life.

    • Bachelor in Pharmacy:

    Bachelor of Pharmacy is a 4-year program of TU under the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Many TU and KU affiliated Medical College offers this course under Rs. 7, 50,000. Pharmacists can work in different domains at the start of their career as Drug Inspector, Therapist, etc.

    • Bachelor of Physiotherapy:

    Currently, Only Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) delivers a formal undergraduate physiotherapy course in Nepal. You can pursue a career in various physical health sectors.

    • Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery:

    Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery is a basic doctor course in Ayurvedic medicine. It is 5 and half years course having1-year rotating internship. Ayurveda Campus offers this course. You can pursue your career as Ayurvedic doctors or medical assistants.

    • Bachelor in Public Health:

    Bachelor of Public health is a 4-year program of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), TU. Many TU affiliated medical colleges offer this course.

    E.     Engineering:

    There are many Engineering courses available if you have studied Mathematics in high school. Some of the major Engineering courses include:

    • Aerospace Engineering:

    For the first time in Nepal, Pulchowk College introduced Bachelor in Aerospace Engineering in 2075 B.S. under the Department of Aerospace Engineering.IOE and TU affiliated colleges offer this course. You can work as a mechanical engineer, Aircraft designer, etc.

    • Agriculture Engineering:

    Agricultural Engineers are those who can use engineering principles in all activities related to agriculture and horticulture. Purwanchal Campus offers this course. You could get a job in Agriculture and horticulture fields.

    • Automobile Engineering:

    Automobile engineering is a branch under mechanical engineering. The course for the Diploma in Automobile Engineering can extend for 3 academic years, consisting of over 6 semesters. Some technology institutions, IOM and TU affiliated colleges offer this course.

    • Chemical Engineering:

    Chemical engineers play an important role in today’s world. They are responsible for a broad range of activities that have a direct impact on the daily operation of industries, and the overall design of processes, equipment, and plants. KU and TU affiliated colleges this course. You can be a chemical engineer and do work related to the chemist.

    • Civil Engineering:

    Bachelor of Civil Engineering, which can generally call as BE Civil, in short, is a 4- year having over the 8-semester program of Tribhuvan University. IOE and TU, KU, Purwanchal Campus affiliated colleges offer this course. You can be an engineer for the buildings.

    • Computer Engineering:

    Bachelor of Computer engineering in short called, as BE Computer is a 4-year over the 8-semester course of TU. IOE Purwanchal Campus and TU affiliated with some other colleges also offer this course. You can get both private and government jobs related to IT.

    • Electrical Engineering:

    BE of Electrical Engineering is a 4 years degree provided to the students who desire to graduate in the area of electrical engineering. TU, KU, Purwanchal Campus, and other affiliated colleges offer this course. You can pursue your career as an electrician or maintenance worker.

    • Geomatics Engineering:

    Department of Civil Engineering, Western Regional Campus, Pokhara offers a bachelor in Geomatics Engineering. This campus is the constituent campus of TU. Geomatics engineering like other engineering is a 4-year program having over 8 semesters. TU affiliated engineering colleges offer this course.

    • Industrial Engineering:

    Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering is one of the programs which are offered by TU in Thapathali Campus, Thapathali, and Kathmandu. IOM publishes entrance examination details. You can get a job in any industrial sector.

    • Mechanical Engineering:

    Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, which is called, BE mechanical in short is a 4 year, 8-semester program. Thapathali and Pulchowk College affiliated by KU, TU offers this course under 80 lakhs. You can get a job as mechanics at the industrial level.

    • Electronics and Communication Engineering:

    BECE is the engineering that uses the scientific study of electrons to manufacture devices, which simplifies the life of human beings which can run the business with greater ease of quality. Some engineering colleges and IOE offer this course. You can get a job in communication companies.

    • Bachelor of Architecture:

    Bachelor of Architecture is a renowned degree which one can hold. It comes under the faculty of Science. TU completes this course in 5 years, semesters wise. Few colleges including Kathmandu and Himalayan Engineering College offer this course. You can get a job as a designer of the artifacts.

    2.    Management

    Generally, Management is the process of managing small as well as large businesses. A concerned party designed Management courses for managing/dealing with or controlling things or people. From these courses, you will be able to manage the organization from private institutions to government bodies, from schools to colleges, from profit motive business to non-profit organization as well as online business. We have listed different courses available for you in the Management stream after 10+2.

    A.    Business Studies:

    These are the courses available in Nepal for business knowledge. Here is the list.

    • Bachelor of Business Administration

    Bachelor of Business Administration is the most demanding field and first choice of most of the plus 2 management graduates of Nepal. It is 4 years bachelor program in management having over 8 semesters. TU & KU affiliated colleges like KMC, MNC, DAV Colleges, and so on offer this course. It costs Rs. 5, 10,000 to graduate under BBA. You can be a manager in many industries, banks.

    • Bachelor of Business Management:

    Bachelor of Business Management is a new program introduced by TU, Stream of Management is a 4-year program having over 8 semesters. TU, KU affiliated like TMC, Makawanpur, and Saraswati and so on offer this course. It costs Rs.8,55,000 to complete BBM. This leads to a career as a manager, clerk, etc.

    • Bachelor of Business Studies:

    Bachelor of Business studies is the 4-year degree program conducted by TU, the stream of Management. It is an annual exam-based program. Some TU affiliated colleges offer this course. If you have graduated BBS then you can apply for jobs in industries like Bank. You could join as an intern in any bank and continue studying MBA along with holding a job.

    B.    Bachelor of Management:

    • Bachelor of Hotel Management:

    Bachelor of Hotel Management is a 4-year program including over 8 semesters under TU. Culinary arts colleges offer this course under Rs.5 lakhs. You can get a job as club management, hotel manager, waiter, etc.

    • Bachelor of Information Management:

    Bachelor of Information Management (BIM) is a 4-year course including over 8 semesters. Some Management colleges affiliated under TU offers this course. The BIM graduates can apply for jobs without further courses for the posts of middle-level managers, officers, network administrators, system analysts, ICT consultants, system administrators, software developer to mention a few.

    • Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management:

    Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management is a 4-year course on TU. Colleges like KMC offers this course. Your degree would be useful for jobs which include Conference center manager, Customer service manager.

    C.    Others:

    Other courses included in Management streams are:

    • Bachelor of Public Administration:

    Bachelor of Public Administration is a 4-year program of TU, Stream of Management. Mahendra Morang Campus offers this course. Those who study Public Administration courses have high chances to clear the exam taken by the Public Service Commission (Lok Sewa aayog) as the subject is relevant to the questions asked during the exam.

    • Bachelor of Social Work:

    BSW  is known as Bachelor of Social work, is a 3-year annual program of Tribhuvan University. KMC, St. Xavier’s, and so on offer this course. You can be a social worker, counselor, etc.

    3.    Humanities

    After completing two years program of Humanities, There are many courses designed for those students who are interested in working in the social field. Humanities include many subjects such as journalism, mass communication, major English, Nepali, and Economics, and so on. This course offers many alternatives fields to choose from in further study.     A.    Bachelor of Arts:

    If you are interested in the arts, then these courses are best for your future study.

    • B.A. – 3 years:

    The Bachelor of Arts is a 3-year program on TU. KMC, Khwopa, and many others offer this course. The scope of B.A. is in banking, financial services, defense, and BPO sector.

    • B.A. Economics:

    BA economics is a three-year program of TU, taught under the annual system. It is offered by TU, KU affiliated like Ratna Rajya, Tri-Chandra, and so on. It costs Rs. 5,00,000 to study B.A. Economics. The scope of B.A. is in banking, financial services, defense,  policymaker, etc.

    • B.A. Bachelor of Laws (5 years):

    Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Laws (BALLB) qualifies students to practice law to equip them with analytic and communication skills. Many law colleges and some TU affiliated colleges offer this course. You can be a public prosecutor, lawyer, etc.

    • Bachelor of Laws (3 years):

    The Bachelor of Law (LLB) program is for those who want to make a career in the legal profession. Many law colleges of Nepal and some TU affiliated colleges offer this course. You can apply for an associate lawyer or any legal jobs.

    B.    Bachelor of Education

    • B.Ed. – 1 year:

    The Bachelor of Education (1-year B.Ed.) is a 12 months degree program in education introduced to provide students with many courses and field experience to enhance the skills and knowledge required to teach. It is offered by many colleges, almost 25 colleges affiliated by TU.TET (Teacher Eligibility Test), CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test), NET (National Eligibility Test), SLET (State Level Eligibility Test) are examples of the government exams which B. Ed. graduates can give.

    • B.Ed. Information Communication Technology:

    Bachelor of Education in Information Communication Technologies is a program offered by TU. It is a 3-year semester-based program having over 9 semesters. Butwal Multiple Campus, Surkhet Campus, and many others offer this course. Related fields are Computer Teacher, Software Developer, System Administrator, Web Programmer, etc.

    • Bachelor of Film industry:

    Bachelor in Film Studies (BFS) is a program offered by the affiliated college of TU, Faculty of Humanity and Social Sciences. Oscar International Colleges and other institutions offer this course. You can get a job in the film industry as a filmmaker, actor, director, etc

    • Bachelor of Fine Arts:

    TU provides a bachelor’s degree in the field of arts and design, which is called a Bachelor of Fine Arts. KU also offers this course. It costs Rs. 3,75,000 to study. You can be an art teacher or any artist.
